When first introduced, atypical agents (now called second-generation agents) were branded as being relatively benign,  with fewer side effects than drugs like Haldol and Thorazine. First introduced for treating schizophrenia, drugs like Abilify, Risperdal and Zyprexa, are now prescribed for a myriad of on and off label indications in children and adolescent, including bipolar disorder and ADHD.
