Atypical agents (e.g. second-generation antipsychotics) like risperidone, olanzapine and aripiprazole are marketed as being relatively benign. Today, these drugs are prescribed for a myriad of on and off label indications in children and adolescents. While some children have mental, behavioral or emotional problems so severe that pharmacological treatment is required, this card serves as reminder to weigh the risks before prescribing antipsychotics in children.
